Testing Positive for COVID-19 & Return to School Protocols

If a Student or Staff Member tests positive for COVID-19, inform your school’s Principal and Nurse as soon as possible. Contact information can be found at the bottom of this document.

  • Student/Staff Isolation and Return to School Protocols: Per the RIDOH, the positive individual will be required to isolate at home for a minimum of five (5) days and can return to school on day six (6) as long as the following criteria is met:

    • The positive individual MUST consistently wear a well fitted mask throughout the school day and while participating in school related activities until day eleven (11).

          • A surgical mask or KF-94/KN-95 mask is strongly recommended.

    • Is fever-free for at least 24 hours without use of fever-reducing medication; and other COVID-19 symptoms have significantly improved or are improving.

          • If you are unsure if the symptoms the positive individual is displaying are considered “significantly improved” please reach out to your school’s nurse.

    • If the positive individual is unable to consistently wear a well fitted mask throughout the school day and while participating in school related activities they MUST isolate at home for ten (10) full days and may return to school on day eleven (11)

    • Individuals who are severely ill with COVID-19 or who have weakened immune systems (immunocompromised) should isolate for at least ten (10), and up to twenty (20) days. A Doctor's note will need to be submitted to the school nurse prior to return.
